Russian Summer

In 2011 I got a commission form National Geographic magazine to photograph Russia in the summer, as seen through dacha culture. As in my native Norway, much of the country has dark and cold winters, and summers are relatively short. Russians flock to these summer homes en masse, to enjoy the intense and magical summer months to the full, regardless of whether they are humble Stalin-era wooden structures with a vegetable garden, or grand palaces for the wealthy.
